The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
