Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is his initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of 2023.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
